8 Ways to Be Kinder to Yourself in 2020 (The New York Times, 24 December 2019): I’ve talked about self-talk before (Episode 9) and the importance of replacing negative self-talk with positive. This article from The New York Times provides some quality, actionable advice – so why not make this the year that you treat yourself with more kindness than ever before? Read it here.
What a decade on the edge of change has taught me about ‘the future’ (ABC News, 29 December 2019): Maybe it’s because I completed my undergraduate degree on both psychology and sociology, but I have a long-held fascination for how society as a whole and we as individuals are intricately connected. This analysis piece by Antony Funnell for Future Tense, an ABC Radio National program that explores change in our world, provides some interesting food for thought about how the world is evolving – and, by extension, how we as individuals are evolving. 23 Innovative Ways to Set Yourself Up for Success in the New Year (Thrive Global, 28 December 2018): Even those of us who don’t bother with new year’s resolutions can’t help but be reflective at the end of the year and the beginning of a new year – I just talked about reflection in the most recent episode of Let’s Talk About Mental Health (find it here) and next week I’ll be talking about new beginnings. This article from Thrive collates advice from multiple sources to help you if you’re thinking about making some changes in 2020. Read it here.
Are people less kind now than they were in the past? (ABC Life, 18 December 2019): When Burt Bacharach sang, “What the world needs now, is love, sweet love,” he could have just as easily substituted the word ‘love’ for ‘kindness’. Much has been said and written about the nastiness that has seemingly pervaded every corner of our lives, but instead of focusing on the negative I want to encourage all of you this year to focus on the positive and to spend more time practicing kindness, because what you put out will come back to you. With that in mind, this think-piece will give you some points to consider in relation to kindness and how you can contribute to a kinder world. Read it here.
