Greetings! I am cold. It was minus 4 degrees celsius here this morning (about 25F) which I know isn’t nearly as cold as those of you in the northern hemisphere get for winter, but for here it’s freezing (and bear in mind we commonly have temperatures in the summer of 40-45C/104-113F so it’s swings and roundabouts really). Anyway, not complaining, just stating facts: my feet are still frozen. There is, however, an absolute joy to seeing the frost and ice everywhere, and it’s a wonderful reminder that even though we are in the depths of winter now, we know that by the end of August we will have at least one day where the temperature reaches 20C/68F during the day (today’s high is 10C/50F) so it’s a bit exciting to know it’s kind-of just around the corner (what a weather nerd I am!).
This week I’ve been busy launching new things (see below – I’ve started doing Reels on Instagram!) and planning out the next three months of content for Let’s Talk About Mental Health TV (LTAMH:TV), which might sound like a lot of forward-planning but you’d be surprised how quickly you burn through content ideas when producing both a podcast and a YouTube/IGTV show every week, both on different topics! No complaints though because I love what I do and I am absolutely grateful to each and every one of you that I have the platform I have to be able to do work that I love. And if you would like me to answer a question or cover a specific topic on LTAMH:TV leave me a comment on this post (I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to cover everything submitted, but I will definitely try my hardest or discuss an alternate approach with you if I need to make it a bit broader in focus).
The other thing I did this week was to change the Let’s Talk About Mental Health logo. Why? Because I was scrolling through Spotify and Apple Podcasts as a user to see if the old one jumped out and it didn’t at all, so I needed to make a change. I know that not everyone likes the new one… I did a poll on my Instagram Stories and 15% said they didn’t like it, however I’m choosing to focus on the 85% who do and I’m sticking with it! You’re never going to please everyone all the time. FYI here’s the new logo (I may tweak some of the fonts along the way, but the general form is the final choice):

In addition to now posting LTAMH:TV on IGTV (along with YouTube) I have also this week started experimenting with Reels on Instagram, which is interesting because it’s challenging me to think about how to communicate complex ideas in less than a minute (but where I still explain the ‘why’ behind things and the ‘how-to’, because that’s the basis of my entire brand!). My favourite things this week:
1. Social media — The greatest description of anxiety I have ever seen… regram by @theanxietyhealer [via Instagram]
This ‘hello my name is anxiety” post is absolutely spot-on in describing some of the common attributes of anxiety, and I can definitely relate to every single one of them: my anxiety presents as a real need to have structure and routine, and I do not handle changes in plans well. My partner recently gave me two days notice on something and I was instantly annoyed and agitated as it wasn’t long enough… seriously!
2. Music — 24 Hours by Agnes [via YouTube]
Apparently YouTube now knows me better than I know myself, because it recommended this little classic-disco-meets-2021 number by Swedish artist Agnes to me and I’ve been obsessed ever since, so much so that I felt compelled to add it in this week’s newsletter because it has brought me immeasurable joy all week long while driving in my mobile karaoke studio (a.k.a. My car).
Trigger warning: the lyrics are about finding the strength to leave a toxic and possibly abusive relationship so if that makes you feel uncomfortable, you might want to skip this. Otherwise, here are the two reasons I’m obsessed with this song (we can talk about the fantastic retro video vibes another time): (1) It’s an excellent reminder of just how much can change in 24 hours, and how even negative events can have a positive outcome; and (2) this part of the lyrics:

It’s the emphasis on the ‘I choose my future’ that makes me all tingly with joy, because you really do choose your future.
3. Social media — Do what you can… by @thrive [via Instagram]
Oh, what a surprise! I’m sharing Thrive again! Look, I love their content and it speaks to me, which means you get to share in my Thrive obsession. This is an excellent reminder that you can either lose time worrying over the things you cannot change or you can choose to focus on what you can do. Only one of those options brings you peace of mind!
Tip of the week for better mental health:
If something isn’t working, either change your approach to it or let it go. You may have noticed I’ve done this from time to time with things that haven’t been working content-wise and the reality is that not everything you do will be a winner. If you try something and it doesn’t work, that’s OK because it’s all a learning experience – either try something different, or let it go. Perseverance is great (so don’t give up after the first setback) but know when to cut your losses.
