Thursday Thoughts: the weekly Let’s Talk About Mental Health newsletter (7 October, 2021)

Hello Talkers!

It’s the 7th of October and that means that today my podcast turns two years old! Wow! Thanks to all of you for your ongoing support, it truly means the world to me that I get to show up each week and do work that I absolutely love doing while also helping people. Here’s to many more years of good stuff!

So… greetings and salutations, and welcome to another newsletter. I hope you enjoy my quick snapshot of my favourite things this week — hopefully at least one of them will make you smile/smirk/feel inspired. Have a fantastic week and a brilliant weekend!

My favourite things this week:

1. Social media — ‘You deserve’… from @letstalk.mentalhealth [via Instagram]

Turns out there are quite a few accounts with similar titles to mine… things you think I would have explored further two years ago when I was setting the podcast up, but hey! I like this, especially the “you deserve to feel safe,” “you deserve to be heard,” and “you deserve to feel seen” but I especially love “you deserve peace of mind” because you do! (May I just note here, however, that while I agree you deserve the truth, very often we need to accept that we may not get the full truth and we have to be able to give ourselves closure even if the full truth never comes… just something to be mindful of!)

2. Social media — Tips for letting go of an ex... from @psych_today [via Instagram]

A bit of a niche one this time; I saw this post with five tips for letting go of an ex and thought it might be good to share for anyone dealing with a relationship breakdown (I’m conscious of the fact that I don’t touch on a lot of relationship stuff because it would be boring to hear me talk about being in a long-term relationship!).

3. Social media — Simplicity... from @thrive [via Instagram]

Simplicity makes life far more enjoyable (less drama = less drama), and I’m such a die-hard fan of the idea that my latest video is about just that. This popped into my Instagram feed this week with the simplest way of representing two ways of simplifying life: (1) decide what is important, and (2) let go of what isn’t important. Simple. Done! Learn it, live it, love it. (PS: Who knew I was going to share Thrive content this week?!)

Tip of the week for better mental health:

Spread kindness. I know I bang on about this one a lot (like, a lot) and I do so because I’m a firm believer that what you put out comes back to you (I say it at the end of every podcast episode!). Being kind to others makes you feel good about yourself and those warm-and-fuzzy feelings help to lift your sense of self-worth… so, be kind!
