Thursday Thoughts: the weekly Let’s Talk About Mental Health newsletter (2 December, 2021)

Hello Talkers!

One of my favourite Instagram accounts is @the.holistic.psychologist by Dr. Nicole LePera, author of How to Do the Work (which I’ve mentioned in the past). She’s very passionate about sharing resources and making better mental health accessible for all, just as I am, so I decided that today will be an all-Dr.-Nicole newsletter in terms of my favourite recent posts. One in particular, about over-explaining, definitely hit me in the feels!

Also, a minor-but-big change coming to the podcast this weekend: I have started working with an editor who is now responsible for making everything sound good so that I can save myself quite a few hours a week that were previously spent on DIY editing. I will say that I’ve had to make a small compromise along the way; I usually edit out all of my breathing because I have one nostril permanently blocked and the other isn’t great, which means that I have to take in massive (and loud) lungfuls of breath when I’m speaking. I’ve worked out a way to fix most of that easily when recording (pause button for the win!) but I still have minor shallows breaths that are noisy, I used to edit them out and now I’m choosing to leave them in because (a) it’s no surprise I breathe and (b) I’m probably more self-conscious and hyperaware of it than any of you will be. So, yep, minor/big changes which will allow me to focus more on growing the show/work at a less ridiculous pace rather than spending a day a week on editing. Hooray!

So… greetings and salutations, and a warm welcome to another newsletter. I hope you enjoy my quick snapshot of my favourite things this week — hopefully at least one of them will make you smile/feel inspired. Have a fantastic week and a brilliant weekend!

Jeremy 😃

  1. Thank you Jeremy, you have been a constant source of support during the Covid lockdown. I suffer from anxiety and have done for most of my life. I have learnt skills to manage it but from time to time it rears it’s ugly head unfortunately. This was the case during lockdown.
So a big thank you for your podcasts as they have been my therapy sessions during a time when I couldn’t seek help face to face. Take care, Deb
