Thursday Thoughts: the Let’s Talk About Mental Health newsletter (3 February, 2022)

Hello Talkers!

I went to a café to work on Tuesday for the first time in a month and a half; no, I’m not turning into a shut-in… my partner is a school teacher and it’s been the school holidays since just before Christmas (school is back now), so I haven’t needed to go anywhere (thank you home delivery groceries… you take it for granted in the city, but we only got it in my area a few months ago and it is revolutionary).

Anyway, my point (is there one?!) is that getting out of my same day-to-day routine was the best thing I could do for my creativity and motivation, which I had been struggling with (I’ll be telling you all about that in the next episode of my podcast, Let’s Talk About… Motivation, which comes out on Sunday February 6).

So here is my question to you: what can you do to shake things up? What can you do differently to help refresh your perspective on things?

Look, I don’t know about you but I know that for me it has been easier and safer to stay home for a while (thanks to Omicron taking off at the same time that our government has decided that we’re better off living in some sort of survival-of-the-fittest Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome dystopia, but sadly without Tina Turner to lead us)… but in all things there needs to be a balance between safety and risk. So, whatever you choose to do, be safe but don’t be so safe that you never make any progress.

So… greetings and salutations, and a very warm welcome to another newsletter. I hope you enjoy my quick snapshot of my favourite things this week — hopefully at least one of them will make you smile/feel inspired. Have a fantastic week!

Jeremy 😃

P.S. Help me keep my work ad-free by becoming a supporter on Patreon; for $3 AUD per month you’ll get a shout-out in the weekly transcript for each podcast episode, or for $8 AUD a month you’ll receive that plus an exclusive monthly video where I share what’s coming up on the podcast and YouTube channel for the next month… and you can submit your questions about mental health and my work which I will answer in the video. Click here to become a supporter and I will be eternally grateful! Thank you 🙂

My favourite inspiring things this week:

My absolute favourite thing this week (Warning, this is warped!):

By now you will all be well aware of my obsession with Drag Race; this week, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World started (catchy short title…!) which is basically International All-Stars, and my all-time favourite contestant Jimbo (from Canada) is back. The first episode was a talent show and Jimbo did… well, I still don’t really know what he did, but I cannot stop watching it. This is weird and warped in the most wonderful way ever, and I had to share it. If you’re squeamish or easily offended I would suggest giving this one a miss! #JimboForTheWin

My favourite posts from my channels this week:

My favourite quote this week:

“We are all of us failures — at least the best of us are.”

  1. Good morning from the uk. Loved this weeks newsletter very inspiring. Haven’t had a good week and these quotes helped me to know other peoples behaviour is there stuff. My X partner threaten me and used repulsive language towards me, to the point i reported to the police. Then his eldest daughter whom I’m very close to,told me she doesn’t want a relationship with me, this hurt me deeply. Coming to terms with this is hard, knowing this is there stuff not mine. , it still hurts though. I to love love live drag race . Have a good week and thank you

    1. Hi Irene! Thanks for your message and for sharing that, I’m glad to hear you’re finding my content helpful. Sounds like a tough situation and very hurtful, take things one day at a time and keep on looking after yourself. And hooray for a fellow Drag Race fan! Who do you predict for DRUK vs The World? 🙂
