In my latest monthly update for my Official Supporters on Patreon I shared a little bit about why I am so focused on keeping my work ad-free and I wanted to talk about that here briefly. To cut a long story short, when I was going through my own challenges with severe depression and anxiety I found it tough to find quality resources that were either free or which didn’t cost a fortune… and even then, many ‘free’ resources were either questionable in terms of quality or they were so heavily focused on promoting products or services that it just felt icky. So my focus in my work has been on providing good, quality content for free with then some additional content (also quality!) at a low cost… and that’s what you’ll be seeing more and more of from me over the coming months and beyond. Everybody should be able to access reliable and practical information that helps to improve and maintain their mental health, regardless of their financial situation and without being bombarded by ads. It’s why I choose to continue to keep my podcast and my YouTube channel ad-free; yes, I will promote my own work from time to time, but I choose not to do ads or sponsorships because I am proudly independent in my work. And so that is why I keep on asking you to become a supporter on Patreon, so if you’d like to help me keep my work ad-free then please sign up today!
Speaking of my YouTube channel, I’ve made a decision to do things a little differently from this week onwards. When it comes to consuming content, most people are either podcast people or YouTube people (I’m a YouTube person, funnily enough) and few are both, which means I am reinventing the wheel every week by writing new content for my YouTube channel when I have 118 (and counting!) episodes of quality content already written and which has been reliably helping people… so I am now repurposing all of my old podcast episodes into my YouTube videos in order to focus more time on getting better at the back-end stuff that goes with YouTube (titles, thumbnails, keywords etc). If you, like me, prefer to watch your content then come and join me on YouTube by subscribing to my channel and turning on notifications so you get an alert every time I post new videos… lots of good stuff coming over the next few months and I’m excited to have the chance to revisit and reinterpret my content for a different audience.
So… greetings and salutations, and a very warm welcome to another newsletter. I hope you enjoy my quick snapshot of my favourite things this week — hopefully at least one of them will make you smile/feel inspired. Have a fantastic week!
