Thursday Thoughts: the Let’s Talk About Mental Health newsletter (6 April, 2022)

Hello Talkers!

I talk about gratitude a lot, and yesterday I had a reminder of just how often we forget to be grateful for the little things in life. Case in point: our hot water system wasn’t working due to a tripped switch, and we didn’t find out until we tried to take our showers first thing on a cold morning… let’s just say that starting the day off with a freezing cold shower is not high on my list of things I love in life. It’s fixed now, thankfully, and I am not exaggerating when I tell you how filled with gratitude I was this morning just to be able to have a hot shower! So that got me thinking: what little things do we take for granted which we really should pause and be more grateful for, at least once in a while? I’m making a point today to identify 3-5 little things which make me feel good (my morning coffee is the first one!) and I plan to do this exercise at least once a week as a little reset and reminder. Do with that what you will, but it felt worthwhile to share it!

So without any further ado… greetings and salutations, and a very warm welcome to another newsletter. I hope you enjoy my quick snapshot of my favourite things this week — hopefully at least one of them will make you smile/feel inspired. Have a fantastic week!

My favourite inspiring things this week:

My absolute favourite thing this week:

I’ve struggled for a while to understand why some people don’t bother responding to messages, and then weeks or months later send you a message acting as though nothing happened. In the past I would find myself giving in and sending a follow-up message to see if the person is fine, but it’s a habit I stopped a while back and it has brought me much more peace of mind. People do what they do, and if they don’t see staying in regular contact with me as a priority then that’s fine! Consider what you can do to make your peace with those types of things that can easily drive you to distraction if you focus on them too much.

My favourite posts from my channels this week:

My favourite quote this week:

“By three methods may we learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; third, by experience, which is the bitterest.”
